Volvo's Pilot Assist and IntelliSafe suite uses a camera mounted behind the windshield — plus radar, and on some models lidar. When the windshield is replaced, the camera may shift and calibration ensures every safety feature works correctly.

What Pilot Assist / IntelliSafe Does
Volvo's IntelliSafe suite uses a forward-facing camera plus radar mounted behind the windshield. It powers City Safety (automatic emergency braking), Pilot Assist (semi-autonomous driving), Lane Keeping Aid, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Run-off Road Mitigation. Some newer models also integrate lidar for enhanced perception.

What Happens When We Replace the Glass
The camera bracket is removed with the old windshield and re-mounted to the new one. Even a fraction of a degree of shift in camera angle throws off the system's reference points. Calibration re-establishes those points using manufacturer-spec targets — our method is static only, the most precise approach available.

Volvo-Specific Camera & Sensor Sensitivity
Volvo's camera-plus-radar system is sensitive to glass optical quality. Using generic or low-quality aftermarket glass on Volvo models risks calibration failure. We always use Pilkington (Volvo's OEM supplier), Saint-Gobain (approved), or AGC (approved) — never XYG or Benson on any Volvo.
